HIV in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants

Researchers studied a cohort of extremely low birth weight infants born in South Africa. HIV transmission rates were only 2.7% despite the increased risk. Use of pasteurized breast milk, infant ARVs and a high cesarean section rate were thought to contribute to the low transmission rate.
