Depression in HIV-Infected Women and Vertical Transmission

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21732738This study compared perinatal depression in HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected, high-risk women. Depression symptoms were common in both groups and linked closely to depression prior to conception and substance abuse during pregnancy. It is important to assess for depression early in the perinatal period to impact transmission rates.
