Short Course AZT/3TC Reduces Nevirapine Resistance

A study conducted in South Africa demonstrated that a short course of AZT and 3TC following single dose nevirapine in mothers and infants reduced emergent NNRTI resistance mutations. When compared to mothers and infants who received only single dose nevirapine, the effectiveness of the NVP/AZT/3TC regimen was significant.
