Risk Factors for Perinatal HIV
Researchers looked at a variety of risk factors, both virus-based and host-based (either maternal or fetal/neonatal). This literature review shows that there are a variety of risk factors that come into play for mother-to-child transmission, including maternal genetics, overall health, poor health-seeking behaviors, breastfeeding, and low birth weight, among others. By further understanding these factors, we can have greater success in preventing perinatal HIV.
