New Studies Impact Treatment for HIV-Infected Women and Infants

Two studies appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrate that single dose nevirapine used to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV hampers the effectiveness of nevirapine when later used as part of a regimen to treat these same patients. These studies influenced this year's revision of the WHO guidelines for treating HIV-infected women and infants.
