HIV-infected Women and Childbearing in Brazil and the US

Researchers surveyed HIV-positive women of childbearing age in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and Baltimore, MD regarding childbearing intentions and discussions with medical providers. Despite the fact that between one-third and one-half of women indicated a desire to have children, most women had not had any discussions around this topic with their HIV medical provider. It is key that this issue be addressed and guidelines for reproductive counseling among people living with HIV should be developed.
