Combination ARV Use During Pregnancy and Preterm Birth Risks

A review of women started on antiretroviral therapy including protease inhibitors (PI) during pregnancy showed no significant association between the use of PI and spontaneous preterm birth. Additionally, no association was found in those women who were on ARV prior to pregnancy. These findings support the current guidelines that allow for consideration of ARV with PI for all HIV-positive pregnant women.
