Women's Opinions About Opt-Out HIV Testing

A cross-sectional survey of women showed that 90% agreed with routine HIV testing during pregnancy. Women also felt that HIV tests required additional information to be provided to the patient. Those that had not been screened for HIV during pregnancy were less likely to think routine HIV testing should be included in prenatal care, but the majority (76%) still supported it. Providers need to communicate more effectively with patients around routine HIV testing (opt-out testing) to further encourage the support women have shown for the process.
