What Influences a Detectable Viral Load at Delivery?

Pregnant women who initiated HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy) during pregnancy do not always achieve an undetectable viral load prior to delivery.  This cohort study looked at the frequency with which women had a detectable viral load at delivery and the factors that contributed to that issue.  They found that 13% of women who started HAART during pregnancy still had a detectable viral load at delivery and this was associated with timing of initiation of HAART as well as prenatal care and overall medication adherence.
