In Utero Exposure to HAART and Subsequent Cardiac Effects

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute CHAART-1 study found that in utero exposure to antiretroviral therapy to prevent perinatal HIV transmission had lasting outcome on HIV-negative infants, including impairment of myocardial growth among others. These findings were more significant in females than males.
