Using Modeling to Determine Efficacy of Interventions to Prevent Perinatal HIV
Using modeling of both intra-partum and in-utero transmission of HIV, the effect of various antiretroviral treatments (AZT monotherapy, AZT plus single dose of nevirapine, AZT plus 3TC) were analyzed to help prevent transmission. Modeling found that even single dose nevirapine helped reduce transmission and that the duration of treatment was more important that the type of treatment.
