Multinational Clinical Trial Begins to Determine How Best to Reduce Perinatal HIV Transmission

On January 15, 2010 a large multinational clinical trial began. The PROMISE (Promoting Maternal-Infant Survival Everywhere) study aims to determine the best way to reduce the risk of HIV transmission from HIV-infected pregnant women to their infants during pregnancy and breastfeeding while preserving both maternal and infant health.
