HIV Management During Pregnancy

Providers must consider preconception counseling to prevent pregnancy, early diagnosis in pregnancy for those women that are infected with HIV, impact of antiretrovirals in terms of toxicity on mother and fetus, possible drug resistance, and co-infections among other issues when treating women that are HIV-positive and pregnant. Early prenatal testing and subsequent treatment are key components to preventing HIV transmission.
