HAART and Rates of Preterm Delivery

Authors performed a retrospective cohort study in Spain comparing HIV-infected pregnant women and timing of delivery. The rate of preterm delivery (before 37.0 weeks) was twice as high in HIV-infected women (19.7%) as non HIV-infected women (8.5%). The use of HARRT during the second half of pregnancy was significantly associated with medically-indicated preterm delivery and overall preterm delivery (spontaneous or medically-indicated) was significantly associated with HIV infection.
