Family Planning for HIV-Positive Women

As unintended pregnancy rates can be as high as 58% in areas of high HIV prevalence in low resource settings, it is important to integrate HIV and family planning services to help reduce poor outcomes for mom and infant. Despite recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) to integrate these services, most reproductive health topics are not covered in perinatal transmission prevention programs. Reduction in unintended pregnancies among women with HIV can contribute significantly to decreased rates of perinatal HIV.
