CDC Enhanced Perinatal Surveillance Report

The CDC's Enhanced Perinatal Surveillance report (2005-2008) provides information on those women who are HIV-infected and gave birth between 2005 and 2008 in 15 jurisdictions in the United States. The Enhanced Perinatal Surveillance (EPS) program was designed to elicit additional information on perinatal HIV transmission and prevention. Data shows that the majority of women were non-white, had some prenatal care, and were diagnosed with HIV prior to becoming pregnant. Additionally, 85% of women received ARTs during labor and delivery and 96% of infants received neonatal ARTs.
